テーマA「私の好きな人/もの」

グランプリ

Mutsukiさん(小2)

森本先生より

笑顔で元気よくスピーチをすることができていました。おばあちゃんが大好きだというMutsukiさんの気持ちがとてもよく伝わりました。英語の発音も上手で思わず聞きほれてしまいました。Excellent speech!

Cassie先生より

Fantastic! Your charisma when you spoke was amazing! I was smiling the entire time I listened to your speech. Your English pronunciation was really good, but more importantly, your delivery was what caught my attention most. Your intonation and enthusiasm were very moving, and even though you didn't use any gestures with your hands, you moved me with your voice, poise, and presence. Sometimes, that is more powerful than any hand gesture. Great job!

準グランプリ

Ioriさん(中1)

森本先生より

Ioriさんが村上選手をリスペクトする気持ちが伝わる素晴らしいスピーチでした。話す速度や間の取り方、感情の込め方など、発表の仕方がとても上手でした。英語の発音も正確で聞き取りやすかったです。

Cassie先生より

You did really well on this speech! The message was good and your gestures were meaningful. One of my favorite things about your performance is that you used different intonations and emotions in your voice. Most people use one tone the entire time they speak, but your voice was sometimes loud, sometimes soft, sometimes happy, sometimes sad. This really helped to make me understand your feelings. Speeches are meant to move people and make them feel the same feelings as the speaker. You definitely succeeded in that. Great job!

優秀賞

Yuseimanさん(中1)

森本先生より

感情豊かに元気よく発表することができていて、聞き手を笑顔にさせてくれるスピーチでした。Yuseimanさんが本当に英語が好きだということがよく伝わってきました。話す速度や間の取り方も上手でした。ジェスチャーを効果的に使うことを意識すると、より良い発表になると思います。

Cassie先生より

Great energy! The enthusiasm in your voice really caught my attention. Your smile and gestures were good too! Here's some advice for next time: Sometimes, you used too many gestures. It's okay to put your hands down sometimes. If you use too many gestures, then people will watch your hands more than listen to your speech. Be careful about this. Other than that, great job!

テーマB「2024年に心に残った出来事」

グランプリ

エアーズロックさん(中2)

森本先生より

悪役の演技に挑戦した経験について、自身が考えたことや行動、学んだことなどを含めて詳しく説明することができていて、聞き応えのあるスピーチでした。視線や話す速度、抑揚など、聞き手を意識した発表の仕方も素晴らしかったです。英語の発音もとても上手でした。Excellent speech!

Cassie先生より

Well done! My favorite thing about your speech was the delivery. Your facial expressions were great. You spoke with your eyes. You showed me your emotions through a subtle tilt, nod, or shake of your head. That was what left the greatest impression on me. Some advice for next time: Your use of gestures was good, but it was almost too much. It's okay not to keep your hands up the entire time when you speak. I would recommend pulling your arms inward or resting them at your sides from time to time. That would have made your gestures more natural.

準グランプリ

えむさん(中3)

森本先生より

大学のオープンキャンパスに参加した経験を通してえむさんがどのようなことを考え、それが将来に向けてどのような影響を与えたかについて具体的に述べられていて、素晴らしい内容でした。英語の発音や発表の仕方もとても上手でした。目標に向けてこれからも頑張ってください!

Cassie先生より

Nicely done! Your English pronunciation and delivery was great, but for me, the most impressive part of your speech was your expressions. Your eyes showed me that you understood what you were saying, and the way you moved your head when you spoke was really natural. Some advice for next time: If you ever participate in another event like this, be sure to memorize your speech instead of reading it. I definitely would have given you a higher score if you had done that.

優秀賞

べつばら3きょーだいさん(中2)

森本先生より

トロントでのサマーキャンプの経験を感情豊かに伝えることができていました。話す速度や間の取り方、抑揚のつけかたといった発表面もとても上手でした。一歩踏み出すことによって大きな成長を遂げることができましたね!

Cassie先生より

Great job! Your speech topic was a good one. It showed the growth of your character and a desire to improve yourself. Your expressions were also very good. I could tell that you understood what you were saying, and you conveyed your feelings very well with your facial expressions. Your voice was a bit quiet, which made it feel more like a conversation than a speech, but overall you did really well.

YUさん(中2)

森本先生より

台湾での経験がいかにYUさんにとって思い出深かったかがとてもよく伝わるスピーチでした。英語を通して友達ができたのはきっとうれしかったと思います。話す速度や間の取り方、感情の込め方など、発表面はとても上手でした。英語の発音・アクセントの正確さを高めることによってさらなるレベルアップを図ることができるはずです。

Cassie先生より

Very good! Your speech stood out because of the way you expressed yourself. You were able to convey your feelings with not only your voice, but with your facial expressions. You spoke with your eyes and with your facial features. This made me feel that you understood what you were saying, and that you felt strongly about your topic. Some advice for next time: Your posture was a little too casual for a speech. Please remember that when people give a speech on a stage, they usually stand up straight, look forward, and use both hands to gesture. If you work on this, I'm sure you could become an excellent speaker and speech giver.

テーマC「起業するならどんな会社を作りたいか」

グランプリ

Polarbearさん(高2)

森本先生より

日本食のチェーン店を出したいというプランについて、それに至った具体的な理由やそのメリットについて詳しく伝えることができていました。笑顔で感情豊かに話していたこと、聞き取りやすい速度や抑揚のつけかた、英語の発音など発表面も素晴らしかったです。Excellent speech!

Cassie先生より

Wonderful! Your poise and stage presence were incredibly natural, and what stood out for me was that you spoke with your facial expressions. Even if I had watched your speech without any sound, I still would have been interested in what you were talking about. I would have understood your feelings because of the way you smiled, or looked surprised, or showed confusion, or displayed happiness. Well done!

準グランプリ

Yurayurarinさん(高1)

森本先生より

グローバル問題を解決するために、さまざまな違いを超えて協働することの大切さを力強く伝えることができていました。このメッセージとビジネスの具体的な内容のバランスを良くすることで、より魅力的なスピーチになったと思います。発表の仕方についても素晴らしく、思わず引き込まれてしまいました。Excellent speech!

Cassie先生より

Out of all of the contestants, your performance definitely stood out in my memory because you moved when you spoke. You didn't just use hand gestures; you walked when you spoke and used your entire space to your advantage. You spoke with your eyes, with your facial expressions, with your body language, and with your movement. That was great! Sometimes it was a little over-dramatic, but it definitely kept my attention. Some advice for next time: The only thing I marked you down for was that your speech didn't quite fit the topic: you were supposed to tell us about a company or business you wanted to start, but your answer seemed more like you wanted to start a volunteer program instead of a company. Be sure that your speech directly answers the prompt.

優秀賞

Ruiさん(中2)

森本先生より

オンライン上でハンドメイド商品を販売するというビジネスプランについて、具体例や理由を含めて詳しく発表することができていました。笑顔で自信をもって英語を話すことができていた点がとても良かったです。発表中に視線が横にそれてしまうことが多かったので、聴衆を意識して前を向くことを意識すると良いでしょう。

Cassie先生より

Great job! Your English was very clear and understandable. But more importantly, your speech style, delivery, intonation, and facial expressions as you spoke were excellent. Sometimes, you were looking at your script when you talked, so I had to subtract a few points for that, but overall you did a really good job on conveying your feelings and emotions through this speech. Well done!

Yuinyさん(小6)

森本先生より

学校教材を活用したビジネスプランはとても魅力的ですね。英語の発音がとても上手で、思わず聞きほれてしまいました。感情をもっと込めるたり、与えられた時間をフル活用したりすることでより魅力的なスピーチになると思います。

Cassie先生より

Very good! Your English delivery was great, your expressions were very natural, and your topic was a good one. The only things I marked you down on were for occasionally looking at your script (but you did it smoothly and naturally, so this wasn't a big deal) and for the length of your speech. You had three minutes to do this speech, but you were finished in under 50 seconds. If you had made your speech a bit longer and explained the details of your company (i.e. how would you fund this; what would be the effects of a company like this; would this be a small company to help people in your community, a national company to help people all over the country, or an international business helping people around the world?) Without these details, it felt like you were making a volunteer/charity program instead of a business. I had to mark you down a few points because you hadn't fully answered the business part of the speech topic. Other than that, great job! If you keep these things in mind for next time, I imagine you could do amazingly in future contests!

ringoさん(中1)

森本先生より

伝統工芸品の交換を通して日本と世界を橋渡しし、それが違いを受け入れ、尊重することに繋がるという、素晴らしいアイデアを発表してくれました。話す速度や間の取り方、英語の発音といった点はとても上手でした。視線が下に向いてしまうことが多かったので、しっかり前を向いて聴衆に語り掛けるように話すとより魅力的なスピーチになったと思います。

Cassie先生より

Great job! Your voice was clear and your presence was excellent. You spoke with confidence and definitely showed understanding in the words you were saying. The only thing I marked you down for was that you looked down to read your script from time to time. You did this quite naturally and smoothly, but compared to other contestants who had memorized their speeches, it became a bit of a distraction. Other than that, you did fantastically! I hope you continue to participate in events like this because you definitely have a lot of talent as a speaker.

Overall, this was a wonderful speech contest with tons of amazing speakers and many interesting topics. It was very difficult to select the winners, but there were three points that I want to mention that will probably help everyone improve their speech contest skills in the future.

First, script reading. Many speakers were reading from their scripts while speaking. Whenever possible, please try to memorize your script. The students who memorized their speeches usually spoke more smoothly, and I didn't have to subtract any points for their delivery. Students who paused because they were reading their script usually lost a few points.

Second, facial expressions. For me, this is the most important. Having perfect pronunciation is not as important as sharing your feelings and emotions in a speech. Speeches are meant to engage listeners and make them interested in your topic. If you smile, frown, laugh, shake your head, raise your eyebrows, or show me your emotions when you speak, then it becomes a much more powerful speech. I awarded top scores to students who spoke not only with words, but with their facial expressions.

Third, gestures. Hand gestures are fine, but they should feel natural. They should support your speech instead of distracting from it. They should pull my attention toward you. It is okay to put your hands down from time-to-time, too. Gestures are very useful, but they can also be detrimental if you use them too much, or use them in a way that seems robotic.
